Shanxi (Chinese: 山西; pinyin: Shānxī; postal: Shansi) is a province of China, located in the North China region. Its one-character abbreviation is "晋" (pinyin: Jìn), after the state of Jin that existed here during the Spring and Autumn Period.
The name Shanxi means "West of the Mountains", a reference to the province's location west of the Taihang Mountains. Shanxi borders Hebei to the east, Henan to the south, Shaanxi to the west, and Inner Mongolia to the north and is made up mainly of a plateau bounded partly by mountain ranges. The capital of the province is Taiyuan.
In the Spring and Autumn Period (722–403 BC), the state of Jin was located in what is now Shanxi. It underwent a three-way split into the states of Han, Zhao and Wei in 403 BC, the traditional date taken as the start of the Warring States period (403–221 BC). By 221 BC, all of these states had fallen to the state of Qin, which established the Qin Dynasty (221–206 BC).
The Han Dynasty (206 BC – AD 220) ruled Shanxi as the province of Bingzhou (并州 Bīng Zhōu). During the invasion of northern nomads in the Sixteen Kingdoms period (304–439), several regimes including the Later Zhao, Former Yan, Former Qin, and Later Yan continuously controlled Shanxi. They were followed by Northern Wei (386–534), a Xianbei kingdom, which had one of its earlier capitals at present-day Datong in northern Shanxi, and which went on to rule nearly all of northern China.
The Shanxi Fenjiu Brave Dragons (山西汾酒猛龙) or Shanxi Fenjiu or Shanxi Brave Dragons are a professional basketball team based in Taiyuan, Shanxi, China, which plays in the North Division of the Chinese Basketball Association. The Zhongyu Iron & Steel Company, Ltd., is the club's corporate sponsor while its mascot is a brave dragon.
Originally known as the Henan Renhe Dragons (河南仁和) due to corporate sponsorship by the Henan Renhe Group (河南仁和集团), the team rebranded as a result of an agreement signed with the Henan Jiyuan Iron & Steel Group (河南济源钢铁集团) in early November, just before the CBA's 2004-05 regular season began (jigang is an abbreviation for jiyuan gangtie or Jiyuan Iron & Steel).
In conjunction with this change -- the club moved from its original home city of Zhengzhou to Jiyuan -- in the middle of its first season. From 2004-2006 they were known as the Henan Jigang Dragons (河南济钢猛龙) or Henan Jigang or Henan Dragons, and were based in both Jiyuan and Luoyang, Henan.

The Ancient City of Pingyao is UNESCO World Heritage site for being "an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Han Chinese city, founded in the 14th century. Its urban fabric shows the evolution of architectural styles and town planning in Imperial China over five centuries." The impressive city walls (total length 6 km/3.7 mi) were constructed in 14th century. Most buildings in the Old city are from the Ming and Qing dynasties. During the late Qing Dynasty, Pingyao was the financial center of China. Recorded October 2015 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100. The cityscape of Xian (西安), a city in China with 3 million inhabitants, is marked by a 14 km long city wall which is almost completely preserved. The high bell tower with a height of 118 feet is in the centre of the north-south axis. Today, the South Gate with its huge dimensions is also used for festive occasions, such as weddings. However, it also offers the possibility to see parts of the city from above. The queue of people in front of the office of CITS, a semi-governmental travel agency of China, seems to prove that travelling has become unexceptional for Chinese people. In the evenings you can enjoy the typical Chinese illumination or the grandpa-grandma-disco, how the young people call the rhythmic gymnastics of the elderly people. Chinese people also love to be photographed in his...

Check out what I experience as I live in China and teach English in a brand new secondary school here in an out of the way city in China! I have never traveled extensively besides Russia and Costa Rica but this is for the longest so fay and by far. I have no real connections, no friends here and do not know anyone besides the people I met in order to work as a foreign teacher. Mind you, I have no official teaching experience beside Russia last year for 3 months in Socchi where I created some basic lesson plans and taught 6-15 year old kids at a Russian Summer Camp and coaching basketball for in the US on the weekends for 5-12 year old kids. This will be interesting because when I went to Russia I knew a little bit of Russian words, phrases and could hold my own upon arriving. However, here...
The past prosperity of Shanxi lies in Pingyao while the soul of Pingyao lies in its Old City. What's unique here is this well-preserved ancient city with its grand, solemn city wall, its residences and shops, and even the government office all in the style of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911).
Covering an area of around 4.4 acres (18,000 square meters), the museum is located inside of the Temple of Confucius in Taiyuan, a city of Shanxi Province. According to historical records, Temple of Confucius was very small before the Ming Dynasty. It was reconstructed to a brand-new monastery in 1383 and named as Chongshan Monastery. Unfortunately, it was burnt down in 1864. Then Zhang Zhidong, the provincial governor of Shanxi Province, ordered to build the Temple of Confucius on the site of the monastery in 1881.
(EN) Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the northwest of the People's Republic of China, in the center of the Guanzhong Plain.[3] One of the oldest cities in China, with more than 6,000 years of history, the city was known as Chang'an before the Ming dynasty.[1] Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang.[Xi'an is the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.[1] Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of interior China especially for the central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational centre of the central...
